Assorted Spiritual Mind Candy

Delectable Thoughts To Tantalize the Spirit and Raise Personal Vibration

Wouldn't it be great to have a spiritual candy jar to reach into and know what we take from it will get us closer to enjoying our true divine nature? Here I share from my candy jar.

With an arsenal of assorted spiritual mind-candies readily available, you can take charge of your thoughts and focus them in a direction that is more soothing, peaceful and productive. Today’s assortment offers encouraging options to help achieve emotional freedom when stress bears down.

Go with some basics:

  • Come back to the realization that life is supposed to feel good.

You are not here on Earth to ruminate extensively over what was lost or what could have been ‘if only’. Every minute that is spent thinking about harsh memories from the past becomes another minute of happiness that is sacrificed and lost! When you realize your line of thinking is not serving you to help you feel good, get off of that train immediately and move on to something else.

  • Have an affirmation or mantra ready to invoke for when stress becomes triggered.

Mantras and affirmations are thoughtful and transformative words and/or dynamic phrases. They reflect the Greatness we inherently hold within ourselves. When stress is triggered and negative thoughts begin to enter our stream of consciousness, mantras and affirmations are repeated over and over again until feelings of stress and tension are melted away. Examples: “I remain at peace and let love in to be my guide”, and “I am empowered. My best is good enough and that is what matters now.” Custom-create a few mantras that reflect the best of your capabilities and use them so often the thoughts become habits.

  • Break away from dirty space and take a “Light” shower.

A shower? What I mean here is; mentally rinse the area with Divine Light. Whatever space any negativity is rooting from, physically step at least ten feet away from the location if you can. If possible, take a momentary break and leave the area entirely. Picture yourself hosing it down, scrubbing it, bleaching it and blessing it with Light. Shower yourself in it too! Shine up and glow with such pure, bright, white light, your mind’s eye goes blind! You do not need to immediately feel cleansed. Simply know that you are. (Then follow up with some mantras!)

Next, promote yourself and begin to raise your personal vibration:

  • Be choosy about your intellectual accoutrements

Do you ever get fussy about the clothes you choose to wear day-in and day-out in the world? If your thoughts were like a wardrobe complete with all kinds of accessories, what ensembles are you hauling around with you, ready to slip in to?  If you become more selective about what thoughts you allow your mind to run around “wearing”, before long you realize it is a waste of time to try on stuff that is not attractive and does not fit.

Toss the worn out, uncomfortable, stifling and broken-down ideas. Let your imagination give rise to a cerebral fashion show. Let your thoughts dress up the You that is hip and cheerful, warm-fuzzy, breathtaking or soft and luxurious! There is an endless inventory of thoughts to choose from.

  • You are an ambassador for human kindness and compassion. Act accordingly.

Anyone under the light of scrutiny; a work supervisor, a celebrity, a member of the royal family or other public figure worthy of admiration, projects themselves as an ambassador for their cause. Many understand that the extension of their thoughts and actions reaches up to billions of people around the world. This shapes the way they speak and behave.

Imagine it is the case that your words, actions and behaviors will be broadcast and witnessed by billions of people, including children, over the course of each day. Act accordingly. Your world is indeed watching and learning from you. Be an ambassador for human kindness and compassion. You will gripe and complain less and experience love and gratitude more often.

  • See with the eyes of the Universe.

Made of pure love, pure intention and wanting the best for you on your journey, the Universe is your loyal companion. As you walk around with your companion you reciprocate giving and taking. Do not demand that you go here or there without consideration for where your companion might want to go once in a while.

You drive; leading the way to go places, see and experience things. You must respect that the Universe has plans and a direction and wants to show you things, too. Trust. Go with the flow. It wants what you want, supports you and directs you. See through its eyes. When you are in tune with this other perspective, you see loving, delicate treasures and learn to have a relationship with your world that flows well.

Results: Enjoy consistent benefits of progressive manifestation:

Often enough we have a tendency to sit around and dig into the muddy, neglected emotional dark reaches of the mind. We go to those places not intending to fix or resolve any issues but to dwell on how we couldn’t have been more wronged, let down or just plain victimized. Events we experience may be stressful or painful, but these thoughts do not have to be consuming. We have the power within us to recognize when negative thoughts have gone out of control.

We manifest from the thoughts we nurture in our minds. Continue to water seeds of love and love will grow. With frustration grows more frustration. With fear and worry we only manifest more to fear and create even more problems.

The former exercises empower, enlighten and support our Spirit to enjoy a greater sense of well-being. They provide a way to achieve a more open and flowing line of communication with our higher consciousness. This allows us to see the true vision of all that is possible and manifests all the goodness we are truly meant to enjoy.

Full Eclipse of the Moon Tarot Snapshot Reading

A tarot card pull for the day of June 15th, 2011 shows the eclipse of the full moon and our admiration of it as we witness the event.

A snapshot tarot reading is a method of viewing the cards as a pictorial storybook, allowing the energy and meaning of the cards to shift to a different and non-traditional understanding than the sometimes more rigid and basic tarot meanings.

In the case of this layout, the cards were shuffled, cut, and a request was made of them to reveal what today has looked like for people who have been in tune with the scheduled lunar event. The cards were then turned.

eclipse2011June15_tarot
The Wheel of Fortune in the center represents the “red” moon noted as the spectacular observation for this rare lunar eclipse.

Underneath the wheel we see the Two of Pentacles. Often this card is read to mean the juggling of multiple tasks. In the image we see a green band in the shape of a lemniscate, holding this event together in a controlled and synchronized manner. The heavenly bodies Earth and Sun cross paths with one another in the course of this celestial dance.  The high tide of rolling waters in the card in this case is also representative of the full moon.

From West to East as the Earth turns, The Page of Wands and Queen of Cups represent our observation and admiration of the lunar eclipse from two perspectives; as the eclipse began, and as it came to be completed. Energies spin around the meaning of our journey. Purpose and reason come to question, if only for a moment. We look beyond and look within.

The Four of Swords  above all of the cards represents the energies of the mental realm. This indicates inner focus, meditation or; being in tune and having faith. For many it is a time of emotional reflection, contemplation and new beginnings. Our intuitive nature is at peak.

Off to the right, the fifth card pulled emerges as our mid-month guide and assists us with where to direct our focus and how to proceed until the next month begins. The card is the Seven of Pentacles.

It advises us that for the rest of this month: stop and enjoy what we have created for ourselves. With our endeavors, celebrate the process. There is still more work to do, with more benefits to come!

Love, light and sparkling moonbeams!

What Does a Soulmate Aura Look Like?

Will You and Your Soulmate Have the Same Aura Colors?

What is a soulmate aura and what does a soulmate aura look like? The soulmate aura comes up recently as a topic of interest with a request for answers. Here I offer insight about human auras to help answer questions about soulmate connections.

Physical, emotional, mental and spiritual histories are reflected in different layers of the aura. The states of health for each of these major areas are revealed in distinctive colors of the light spectrum to a person that can detect them. Colors of the human aura reflect the energies a person has been reciprocating with.

Aura readers observe the appearance of certain aura colors and their states. They cross-reference and compare colors between different aura layers. This allows aura readers to accurately make predictions for their querent.

Results of physical readings are often of little surprise to the querent since they themselves are aware of what they are doing physically to produce results in the physical world. As for the spiritual realm, unconscious behaviors and the presence and meaning of less obvious energies are usually the main focus in a psychic reading to predict the future.

As it applies to relationships and soulmates, the coming and going of relationships and the future path of a romantic relationship, an aura reader will observe energies in the heart layer and in the outer aura layers connected to the spiritual realm and report their findings.

The heart layer of the aura is called the Bridge Layer. This is where many aura readers see and read colors from. They compare the heart colors with the outer layer colors to project the future.

The Bridge Layer is where energies already present in the physical world begin to communicate with the metaphysical realms. Reciprocation of energies between the heart layer and latter, outer layers of the aura is thought to be the space where the vortex of manifestation is located.

Auras will extend and radiate further outward from the body when a person is in love or when a person experiences profound spiritual pleasure and well-being. To answer the question asked about what a soulmate aura is; it is an informal term used to describe a powerfully connected spiritual relationship between two people in love. It does not exist as a personal aura layer.

Will a soulmate have the same colors in their aura as you do? In a sense, yes they can. Energies of the heart and spirit are very magnetic. Similar aura colors may be the catalyst which can spark a romantic relationship. Souls who share the same major aura colors between each other are likely to exhibit very good chemistry for each other.

Having aura colors which are not the same as those of another person does not necessarily indicate incompatibility or if a person is or is not “the one”. At the beginning of a relationship, similarities in colors and patterns simply reflects a synchronization of unconscious intention and purpose.

Aura colors report the energy of an individual person’s ongoing, personal well-being and sense of purpose. Remember that aura colors can change and shift regularly for each individual. It is not a requirement to have same-colored auras between lovers to have a successful relationship.

Have you had your personal aura or the aura of your relationship read lately? If you are curious about the romance and would like to know heavy details, please feel free to contact me for a live aura reading.

Blessings of love to be with you and all of your relationships,

Violet

The Celtic Cross Tarot Spread - 10 Card Traditional

The Celtic Cross Tarot Spread - Positions Interpretations and Meanings

by Violet Aura

The Celtic Cross spread used for tarot and oracle card readings is probably one of the most well-known. The origin of its use for cartomancy is as much a mystery as what it was originally designated to represent.

As a spread used in tarot card readings, the position of the cards and what each position represents is interpreted differently from reader to reader. Many questions come up about the layout in particular. One question often asked of many beginners is; how exactly do the position of the cards make a pattern of a Celtic cross?

Left: A Celtic Cross symbol with Celtic-style knot-work embellishment.

Historically, this image to the left is a Celtic Cross and is the symbol for which the tarot card layout is based.

There are four extensions off of a center point usually enclosed by a circle. The symbol is Pagan in origin. In this image; decorated with Celtic-style knots.

On the right, the image is a Christian styled cross with Celtic-knot design. The image is a cross, and it has Celtic artwork on it. It is not however a traditional Celtic cross, but a variation of it that has come to be thought of as one.

The symbol came to be known as the high cross and was introduced during the era when Pagan customs were adopted into Christian ritual. The two belief systems shared their conventions during a period where conversion was necessary to maintain peace and order between ancient empires.

The version of the Celtic Cross spread I use for tarot card readings is based on the historic original Celtic Cross and the cultural artwork which layers continuous intersection of pathways. I have also have a preference to lay the cards in relation to the significance of their corresponding metaphysical number.

The image is best viewed full sized, and is yours to download for reference if you choose. Click to enlarge.

I have not found many experienced tarot card readers these days who use Significators. (A specific card hand-picked from the deck to represent whom the reading is about, usually the querent.)

The center point card can be used to identify the person being read as the actual significator. It is otherwise known as the card representing what is now in the present. It is referred to as card 1, also called, "You." The number one is related to self, solitary, and The God within [you].

Card 2 is crossed over the first card.  This card represents what crosses you, for better or for worse. A problem, situation, challenge or influence that either helps or hinders.

The number two represents duality. Self that is apart from balance, needing balance, or needing to come together.

Cards 3, 4, 5 and 6 are the cards laid differently for most every reader and each position is often interpreted differently as well.

For myself, I regard the number 3 as magical. I place this card above cards 1 and 2 at the top of the cross in progress; above 'you'.  Three is the dwelling place of mind, body, and spirit working together in union and in alignment. This card is regarded as what crowns you. It is the card of the Heavens. The rising sun, clouds, stars, rainbows and dreams reside here. It is a position held to show the best that comes from you while being at your best. It shows what can be perceived as the best outcome your mind sees and hopes for.

The number 4 represents balance. Similarly; the legs of the table we display our possessions on. Four seasons, four elements, four directions and four states of mind. It is this number that represents foundation. As it were, card 4 is placed below you. In this position it reflects the subconscious, the issue being read about, cause of a situation, the foundation or the feet of our bountiful table.

Numeral 5 represents many cycles, pathways, crossroads, and in essence, many directions. It is simply referred to as "The Past." In the Celtic Cross spread, card 5 reflects on what has brought you here, what has built you, what the situation or issue has built up to, what backs you, or what is behind you. The card is placed left of the center card.

Card 6 represents the future, what is to come, or what is before you. The number six is associated with charity and chance, what is given so that we may receive. It is a card of energetic reciprocation. To give is to gain, creating harmonious balance within and without. The card is placed to the right of center and holds the energies of karma, 'so shall it be' and 'amen'.

Cards 7 through 10 are laid down to the right side of the cross and represent cosmic connection. The series of cards goes from bottom to top.

The position of card 7 represents the current position of the querent in regards to the question. The number seven is mystical, representing inner life and mind. It represents the whole of the whole, and in the position of this spread is very likely to represent how the querent is probably feeling, acting, and doing -- all at once.

Card 8 is placed above card 7. The number 8 is a symbol of spiritual prosperity brought to earth.  It is thought to be the card of outside influence. Who or what is supporting and encouraging you? How do people outside of the situation see it? It also represents what the mind has manifested, and what thoughts or feelings preoccupy you. It is a card that touches both realms of earth and sky, noting to you that what influence(s) may be there to cause break through, or break down.

The ninth position represents hopes and fears, what you allow to flow, and what you resist. It takes the position of showing worthy cause, worthy result and perhaps showing it is time to move onto other things. Card 9 is placed directly above card 8.

Position 10 is often used to reveal an outcome. It is commonly referred to as showing the final outcome. However, if it were really that simple, we could pull a single card asking the question and make it much easier than reading an entire layout. The number ten is a card that might express overwhelm, overabundance or overflowing. It is in the position that speaks of you getting from point A to point B and now it is time to make this your new point A and go forward to your next order of business on that path.

In the chart you will notice two triangles, one facing up and one facing down.  The triangle facing down is at the top of the spread. It connects three cards to be observed in a focus. Cards 3, 6, and 10 are the focus cards. Looking at them tells a story of the positive light and possibilities to keep awareness on. The downward triangle represents energies channeling to the ground, making their way to be manifested.

The triangle facing up connects cards 4, 6 and 8. In terms of your physical realm being in tune with a cosmic connection, these three cards represent the channel of receiving. Your wishes from up above (cards 3, 6, 10) have been requested to make their way to you. Is your receiving channel open? The focus cards 4, 6, and 8 (especially 4 and 8) should all be taken into account and personal responsibility taken to make any necessary changes or shifts happen in order to properly ground and manifest what you ask. Of course, if all of the cards are in harmony, then you have hit the jackpot! But somewhere in there you probably knew it before the reading ever started!

The layout of the Celtic Cross part of the layout (1-6) continues to cross and cross.

-------3---------10
5----1+2---6----9
-------4----------8
------------------7

Although this is my preferred version of it, I do want to mention just in case, that no way of doing it is wrong. It is up to the reader to be in tune with how the positions and their meanings interpret best for them and then lay the cards out in the fashion that feels best.

For me it has been very worthwhile to go forward with understanding how to resonate with the messages that this spread lays out. No matter which way it is done, a Celtic Cross spread allows the reader to really be open to intuitively understanding the story that has been presented, and that is what makes this spread so enjoyable for many.

Blessings and gratitude,

Violet

Is June a Great Month for Relationships? You Bet!

Who Could Say No to Feeling the Love This Month?

Most people find me because they are looking for an empath and aura reader to share insights with them. It is a pleasant experience for me to be connected to the Light in the people I read for.

When I do my own personal readings I use oracle cards now and then. I have three card decks that I keep close to me while I work. I really enjoy having their powerful energy in the space of my aura, reciprocating their wisdom.

I keep my Rider-Waite deck stacked face down on top of a wonderful book about tarot. On top of the cards sits a crystal cluster of apophyllite at one end of the deck and a specimen of black tourmaline at the other end.

For me, the cards resting on the book with the stones on top helps keep the energies clean, clear and pure in a simple way: I am not constantly ritualizing over them to remove lingering energy that doesn't belong.

I have a black-colored crushed velvet cloth they sit on sometimes. The cloth has not been used for reading on in a while and I hope to find something in a fabric store that stands out and I will use it going forward. The cloth is old and the color is seems to be a bit dreary.

The reciprocating energy I have with this particular deck is really fantastic. In fact, on the morning of June 1st, before I started working I gathered the cards into my hands. I began to shuffle and said, "Heyyy cards, guess what?! Which of you wants your picture taken?!"

I teased some more and let the cards know this picture was going to go on my blog, and then I said, "If you have something to share or a message to give, by all means, make it known!

And so I shuffled and shuffled, and I said to the card deck, "I bet I know who wants their picture taken. Ten of cups always wants their picture taken, right?" *shuffle shuffle*

I shuffled some more, and more, getting all of the cards excited with energy and then I cut the deck one last time.

I turned over one card and look at who showed up:

Ten of Cups - symbolizes people living harmoniously together, sharing their love and their lives. Hands raised and welcoming joy and reception. It is often considered the happiest card in the 78 card deck. (More here.)

And so, for the month of June this year, from the energies of my home to yours, the energies of joy, happiness, harmony and celebration of relationships (family, friends and lovers) make their way to you with the hopes of being received and acknowledged.

Appropriately, in North America where I reside, this month holds much in the way of celebrating a joyous stage for a relationship: Marriage. The card represents in that case, the ultimate joy of a relationship, and a new cycle of learning to love. A new and different path has opened up for many people.

I will not forget to add, the first day of the month presented a solar eclipse (partial). Energies of starting anew and carrying on with a blank slate or even picking up where the ball may have dropped a while back, are just some of the major energies flowing in the cosmic tide at present. If we go with this flow; opening up and being receptive to enjoying the love this month has to offer, it will make for very smooth emotional journeying.

Now the key to going with the flow is exactly that. Go with the flow! If you are not in a romantic relationship, have been frustrated by a dry-spell or a recent break-up, or are in a relationship wondering why you are not married yet and when he is going to ask, collaborating with envy and discord is not the way.

Keep focus on love and enjoying the love of people who are in love, and you will get back into your groove. Be happy for those venturing into a new stage of life together. Spread love within and without. Love and pamper yourself.

Warm thoughts and gratitude,

Violet

Is The "Dream Come True" Right In Front of You? - The Metta Mate

Have we all seen the movie, Forrest Gump? The main character, Forrest, falls in love with his childhood friend, Jenny. The story implies Jenny was involved in all sorts of intimate relationships over time with individuals other than Forrest. Through hurt and repeated rejection, Forrest never ceased to completely love and accept her.

Time after time, Jenny passed up the opportunity to have a relationship with the man she knew would love her and lift her through anything. This went on for most of her life. It was not until receiving news of a life-threatening event had emerged, that she became enlightened to what the components of a truly fulfilling and genuine loving relationship were.

In the course of my work, I have dealings with individuals who are aching to find a lasting and loving, intimate companion. They ask when this magical personality will come into their life. Surprisingly, it is commonly revealed there is already a suitor waiting and willing to sweep them away, except the potential recipient of this lovely and unexpected gift insists on being "Jenny."

I cannot help but to tilt my head to the side and ask this question with wonderment: For what reasons would a woman who is so eager for intimacy and companionship in her life stand in the face of it and then reject it? I hold hope that somewhere in the process of continuing to find the match she is looking for, perhaps Jenny would consider some things:

There is someone out there ready to give all their love to you. It is brushed off, tossed aside, and maybe tinkered with. Even when the admirer's heart feels abused, this soul is always seeing the very best of the woman they love. They wait. Without overstepping your boundaries they compromise their own values sometimes; all to hold on to the chance that someday you will come around to know their devotion and be pleased to have them as yours.

There is something about you so valuable, captivating and so worth loving; sometimes the admirer you reject will put their life on hold hoping for the good graces to finally rest beside them. With this blessing they will finally be allowed to love you freely and completely and be loved in return. The earnest spirit who loves you will endure your refusals for a long time. If you choose someone else, they are happy for you as long as you are happy.

Jenny may or may not say the words - he is physically not enough of this and too much of that. Hair, weight, height, career, fashion-sense and money; the worldly attributes which would make for great presentations do not all measure up to make him right for Jenny. His heart and soul, his kindness and compassion are overwhelmingly splendid and yet these qualities somehow become unjustly insignificant.

She cannot imagine taking a chance at possibly ruining the relationship she has with her best friend, and yet, any couple who claims to be successful with their relationship will cite their life-long partner and soulmate is without a doubt, their very best friend; by definition - always there for better or for worse. She insists the relationship will fail before it is given a chance to begin.

Her own imagination will not let her cross the boundary of having sex with the one being who is so passionate about all of her; possibly every moment spent with clothes off being explored and enveloped by pure love and raw lust may just be the best sex she could ever realize, only, somehow she is diminishing the possibility of an entirely new and powerful experience down to being awkward.

Not a single person, not even Jenny, has the power to control timing and circumstances to make love work how and when she wants it to. Not every Jenny will be open to surrendering her ego to accept her devotee as a lover. Each one of them feels so lonely or desperate to find love, while she makes demands to be loved on her terms. Love does not function in that fashion, no matter how much she wishes the laws to bend to her and make it so. She does not yet understand how love flows while she tries to piece together what love is.

If our desire for a soulmate is mindfully and intentionally invoked to manifest before us, it is with the practice of metta through which the miracle of true love will be delivered. The law works without failure. It is in this space of open-mindedness where the energy of love grows, thrives and empowers us.

The boundless well of love-energy is incredible and expansive, opulent and delightful beyond our wildest dreams when it is allowed to flow. It is the very essence of our power, our being, and our connection to the truth and to the Source. We know hunger, refreshment, sorrow, anger, jubilation and desire all because of the 'crazy little thing called Love'. The essence of every human being is driven by it. Allowing it to channel through us is how the world comes to witness the miracles manifested through its influence.

The wisdom I have been so grateful to receive and pass on is; to give love especially to those who express they have an abundance of love to give. A spirit who loves unconditionally and with such devotion is a gift created for each of us by the Divine Hand. The soul, who is so eager to share the whole of their heart with another person, is a soul who will subtly lead their lover to new paths of discovery. Together they can keep in the practice of living their true purpose. A person in practice with giving the gift of love is easy to love.

Yes, the qualities of a potential mate are critical to consider for each individual's long term happiness. Sometimes the chemistry is just not there. This is the challenge before Jenny in her quest to settle on a mate. Even if love is not tall enough or does not dress in the brand of clothing she expected it to, Jenny has been granted a magnificent gift.

It is so deeply seeded with intimate love and spiritual wealth, the remarkable bond and fulfillment that may come of it would last a lifetime if it were allowed to grow. Under the best of circumstances I would implore Jenny to take great care to re-evaluate which values she has designated as most important in her request for a pledged companion.

For the whole of the human order, and especially for each Jenny struggling to see through the illusion of physical and material love, there is much more to learn about loves other dimensions. If we can enjoy and accept the essence of a soul and its radiant energy which is overflowing with affection, we allow ourselves to sit at the heights of our greatness.

Be blessed with love and kindness as your guides always,

Violet

New Year 2009 - Abundance

I would like to wish you all a very happy 2009. May you enjoy increased abundance, including a wealth of peace and good health. ♥

I have photos of the New Year's table that I set up this evening for the ringing in of 2009. On my side of the family, the tradition is to put money into a jar when it rings midnight. Last year I bought a piggie bank especially for ringing in 2008 and he is with us again in 2009.

Some Photos

The piggie is in the center. He will get stuffed with bills when it rings midnight. Behind the pig is an ornament holder in the shape of the star, which represents self promotion. Hanging from the star is a gold Merkaba.

At the back feet of the pig: on the left a blue bag, and a pink one on the right. These are bags of assorted tumbled stones that I keep under our pillows at night.

At the front feet of the pig are gem spheres: on the left is Ruby Corundum which is my mate's soulstone. On the right is Sugilite which is my soulstone.

Under the nose of the piggie are money bags and miniature cash embellishments.

Here is a photo from the top:

In front of the money bags at the front of the table is a tall generator quartz crystal. There are miniature bottles of stones containing Tiger's Eye, Iolite, Aventurine and Garnet. Closest to the front is a pyramid of Green Aventurine.

To the left and right of the mini bottles are medallions. The one on the left has his totem animal on it and it is made of brass. Mine on the right is green jade and is my medallion and has one of my totem animals on it as well.

On the left and right I fanned out some oracle cards from one of my favorite decks for things that I would like to see prominent in this upcoming year.

On the left representing career path and receiving, cascading from top to bottom are: Beginnings, Abundance, Focus, Action, and Success.

On the right:

Representing relationships and giving, cascading from top to bottom are: Gratitude, Love, Joy, Miracles, and Healing.

I am looking forward to the changes that will be coming and hope for all of us that we will continue to be blessed with greatness. :)

Thank you for looking!

Warm thoughts, hugs and love.

Violet

I ASSUMED HOW TO LOVE YOU - A Smarter Way To Love Someone

One of the most prized gems of wisdom I have acquired over the years came forth from a spiritual mentor and personal friend of mine. It is about the processes of understanding how to love someone, not just freely giving love because we have love to give.

It was after processing this simple bit of information that I began to unlock a very powerful concept for nurturing and supporting the relationships in my life. I believe to this day, that the short simple sentence my guru-friend threw at me to chew on, led me to the most rewarding gifts I have experienced in my life.

"How do you love a cat?" he said to me.  I looked at him with an eyebrow raised and my brain was searching for a suitable answer.

"Is this a trick question?" I wondered to myself. The obvious answer (to me anyway) was, that you just love your cat like any other being with a heart and mind of its own; at minimum, hold it, pet it, talk to it, feed it, send it loving thoughts and energy. Those kinds of things, right?

And then he gave me the eyebrow and asked me to take a stab at some guesses to get the correct answer. In the end I didn't know what it was he was looking for in my response. I've owned and cared for a cat before and the cat seemed to be doing just fine. I was at a complete loss for what I was missing.

After I was pondering for what seemed like forever, he said to me, "The way you love a cat, my dear, is: you love it the way it wants to be loved".

One of the downfalls of many relationships rests precisely on not knowing how to love someone. We assume that we know how to love someone because we have love to give. It is often given freely and unconditionally, with no focus or direction except that we are being loving.

A question we might never think to ask our partners is, "How can I love you?" We assume that we know how to love the person we are with because we simply love them and do what we can. Or we impose our own ideas about love upon them thinking "our way" is what they need, sometimes without regard to what it is that would assist them to feel more fulfilled.

So from here, when it comes to love, set assumptions aside, and take a risk and ask how to love your partner.

Many people have never been asked this question, and may not know the answer for themselves. When I asked my partner the question, I was to listen for two full minutes. Just listening. And my partner was to speak for the entire time giving honest answers about what generates loving feelings for him and makes him feel special.

My partner feels loved when I make a meal that is made just for him. When I bring his plate over I see his eyes light up like Santa Claus is delivering a gift on Christmas morning. He feels loved when I speak to him with a gentle voice. He feels loved when I acknowledge that his ideas are good ideas. For him, if I love him those ways often, he feels warm and fulfilled, and it makes a difference in his spirit. I see him shine.

For me, I feel loved when he gives me compliments. I feel loved when he holds my head in his hands and kisses my forehead. I feel loved when he gives me a card or note that has expressions from the heart.

Knowing this about each other allows us to reciprocate love and generate those important feelings towards each other often and effortlessly. The meal that I cooked for him and makes him feel special, in return allows for me to receive the compliments from him that allow me to feel special and appreciated.

Speaking to him in a gentle voice will often prompt him to hold me close and put my head in his hands and kiss my forehead the way I just adore. And when I acknowledge that his thoughts and ideas are creative and worthwhile, his gratitude and accepting heart has him leaving love notes for me.

When he is in a 'mood', I often ask quietly to myself, "how can I love you?" and the answer comes faster and more effectively with practice of the concept. Some days it may be as simple as letting him be and giving him his space. Other days it may be offering a cup of coffee to him. It allows him to know that I am there for him the way he needs me to be, and without me feeling like there is nothing I can do to help.

The way that this process works is amazing. Working in tandem is the whole point of being in a long term or committed relationship, isn't it? Being partners in life is great. Better yet, being partners in love sets our universe on fire and gives our lives passion.

Not too long after putting my new found wisdom to work, I was led to a book that elaborates this concept and I would like to share it with you. There are perhaps only three books on my list of many good reads that I will refer to my clients, this being one fo them. For relationships, without a doubt, when I have recommended this book and my clients have put the concepts to work, they have reported back to me with an experience that speaks of tremendous results.
